Day Five...

My last day at FPP. The week has gone very fast. I can without doubt say I have enjoyed my time here and it's definately been worth while. I was also given some good news... they would have me back should I wish to return :D
Today I have been working on a brief for Pringles crisps. The brief was to produce a piece of packaging that would be given out to prospective clients of Pringles. Like a free-bee pack informing the client of what Pringles have to offer, why they should invest in them to sell their product and a free tube of Pringels. The majority of this development was researching into the product and then producing design sheets for it visualising how the product would come together. It was great because today I had chance to speak to different people and see what they do rather than just get my head down and work. So I had a bit of both sides, interaction and designing. I was surprised to find that the two guys that sit at the oppostie end of the studio to me were actually 3D designers. When I spoke to them about what they did, it barely had anything to do with the type of design that I'm used to and interested in. All this was to change though because I found that I was interested in what they do! Not my skill set but interesting all the same. I also spoke to the junior designer about her background, qualifications and how she made it into the industry with portfolio advice. So all in all although I didnt get chance to do any digital designing I had a great day. And it just so happened that there was a pub night planned and an early finish and they invited me to the pub after too! Apparently this doesnt happen every Friday (I bet) and it was just a special occasion they hold every once in a while that coincidently coincided with a bit of a leaving doo for the copy writer. Great fun as I managed to speak to the staff that are in the studio next door who deal with the production of all the products and make sure that all the designs 'run.' This side of production is an interest of mine and I woud like to sit in their side if I return next time. So all in all a great week and very educational :D

Day Four...

Day four and I've been finishing off my packaging designs to be sent back to the client. I have also sourced some new imagery from Sebastian's website which I've posted up because I like them so much. They work so well and are so powerful. I'd love to be able to use photography like this in my work.... I edited and used three of them in my final designs which you can see here below. I found some fantastic model shots of full length figures however I decided to go with just the facial shots because I felt that the eyes worked so well with the design.
Another change! This is the one that ended up being sent not the other ones below - Last minute edit! Their doesn't look like a great deal has been changed from the size of the image but I had to change the strap line along the bottom and the 'get the look' opacity on the over lays on the top.

FINALS!

Day Three...

Today I spent the majority of my day continuing to develop the new packaging concepts for Sebastian hair products. However, I did also find time to develop this nice little logo for my identity. Pretty chuffed with it. Gonna try and develop it further and perhaps use it for business cards etc soon :)
Below are the box designs I have produced so far for Sebastian...

Day One...

Well, I survived my first day at FPP Design Ltd... Yey!
I wasn't there long before I was briefed on a job that had come in at 9 am and had to be sent back to the client at 5 pm. The client being Procter & Gamble. No pressure. It wasn't an overly complicated job but I felt a little thrust in at the deep end and a little bit of pressure not to make myself look incapable. I had to re-design a 7 paged document for 'Rock Hard Team' - The sound of male grooming. (It wasn't quite as homosexual as I first suspected! Joke.) There had to be distinct influences of rock, classic rock or metal in the type, pattern, layout and colour pallet. I was left to my own devices and given a brand new marker pad and a couple of pens and had to draw as much as I could and collect as much imagery as possible from istock or other sources. (In just an hour might I add.) After my hour to produce something the creative director that's looking after me came to look at the concepts I had developed. He liked my illustrations, visualisations and two main concepts in particular. After talking through my concepts with another creative they agreed to develop my designs and brought in another designer to do one of them and left me to do the other. At the end of the day we reviewed the final designs and both of our designs got sent off to Procter & Gamble. Sooo, I guess I just need to wait until tomorrow now to see what the outcome is. Be pretty cool if it gets used!

This is the man who is looking after me and who I have been mainly working with today...

And this is the designer they brought in to produce one of my design concepts...

This is a quick low down on P&G...

"Procter & Gamble Co. (P&G, NYSE: PG) is a Fortune 500, American multinational corporation headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, that manufactures a wide range of consumer goods. As of 2008, P&G is the 8th largest corporation in the world by market capitalization and 14th largest US company by profit. It is 10th in Fortune's Most Admired Companies list (as of 2007).[2][3] P&G is credited with many business innovations including brand management and the soap opera."
